Elon Musk Offers $1 Billion To Wikipedia To Change its Name To 'Dickipedia'

Left media generally refers to media outlets that are associated with liberal or progressive ideologies.

These outlets often prioritize issues such as social justice, equality, and government intervention in the economy. They might advocate for policies such as increased social welfare programs, environmental regulations, and progressive taxation.

While Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, aims to maintain a neutral point of view and provide verifiable information based on reliable sources, it's said that it's kind of left biased.

This happens because Wikipedia has a diverse range of editors who contribute to the platform, and because of that, they may have their own inherent biases, which inadvertently influence the content they create or edit.

And the richest man on Earth doesn't like that.

In a tweet on his X platform, he offered $1 billion to Wikipedia, but with one condition.

He said that he is willing to give that astonishing amount of money, if the encyclopedia is willing to change its name to "Dickipedia."

He also seems to be irritated with the constant appeals for donations by Wikipedia. On 22 October, he offered $1 billion to the site, with a condition. On X (Twitter) which he owns now, Elon Musk said that he will give Wikipedia a billion dollars if they change their name to ‘Dickipedia’.

"I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia," he said, while tagging one of his previous tweets, in which he had posted the image of a Wikipedia banner message from 2022 headlined "Wikipedia is not for sale."

Before this, Wikipedia showed a prominent banner of its website, where it was used to seek monetary contributions from users.

Elon Musk posted the image of a portion of the banner with the Sleeping Face Emoji.

It's worth noting that in the past, Musk had also slammed Wikipedia and its "motivated" editors for information manipulation and distortion of facts.

Musk said that his offer to rename the site is "in the interests of accuracy," indicating what he thinks about Wikipedia.

And journalist Ed Krassenstein confronted Musk, and asked if ever Wikipedia accepts the offer, he said that the encyclopedia can easily revert the name as soon as it collects the money.

Musk responded that the new name should be up for at least 1 year.

"One year minimum. I mean, I’m a not fool lol," he said.

It's also worth noting that in the past, there were some some unconfirmed rumors that Wikipedia was seeking donations from its users, because it was on the verge of financial doom.

Through the message, which was created by the Wikimedia Foundation, it was reported that the nonprofit raised $165.2 million across more than 13 million donations in fiscal year 2022 alone.

"If you can comfortably afford it this year, please join the readers who donate," the request for donation reads.

Musk, who is known to speak whatever things he has in his mind, said that Wikipedia does not need so much funds to run its operations, citing that "You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone!"

"Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money?" he asked his followers.

"It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone!"

"So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know …"

Therefore, he requested that the Wikimedia Foundation offer an explanation to its readers, and be more transparent about it.

As a businessman, Musk happens to be one of the most controversial individuals with a very vocal stance.

Following Musk's $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, and the renaming of the company to X, founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales has clearly stated that the company is not for sale.
