Spool for Facebook

14/07/2012

Facebook acquired the team behind San Francisco startup Spool to aim at getting better performance from its mobile business. Spool was a free social bookmarking program and social network that was launched in October 2011.

In an emailed statement, Facebook said, "The Spool team has deep expertise in mobile software development and a passion for making content easy to consume. We're excited for the team to join and accelerate their vision at Facebook."

By hiring a team of engineers with mobile expertise, Facebook has beefed up its ground on mobile competition. Other recent deals include the $1 billion acquisition of Instagram, and the acquisition of Karma.
