People have grown used to starting many tasks inside a single chat window.
Research, drafting, planning, and even basic image generation now often begin with a conversation rather than opening a dedicated application. The friction of jumping between programs has become more noticeable as those chat interfaces handle longer sequences of work.
Adobe has Firefly, and it has now expanded its presence inside ChatGPT with a single plugin that draws on more than seventy tools from its creative and productivity suite.
The new plugin replaces earlier, separate connectors that had brought limited versions of Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Acrobat into ChatGPT since late 2025.
It now incorporates capabilities from Premiere, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Firefly, Adobe Stock, and additional tools, all accessible through one entry point.
Users install it from the plugins section, then invoke it by typing @Adobe or selecting it from the plus menu.
After that, users just have to describe the outcome they want, and the system routes the request to the relevant Adobe functions behind the scenes.
Drawing on more than 70 tools across Adobe’s creative and productivity suites, the Adobe plugin in ChatGPT supports a wide range of workflows, from editing photos and creating campaign videos to designing marketing assets and generating polished PDFs — all through rich, interactive experiences right in the flow of the conversation. That breadth of capabilities means the plugin can adapt to the needs of your project, and when you want advanced editing, creative control or pixel-level precision, you can continue your work in Adobe’s apps right where you left off.
Examples include applying a consistent visual style across a batch of campaign photos, turning a longer video into platform-specific highlight clips for Shorts or Reels, customizing templates and exporting them as animated social assets or polished PDFs, and converting spreadsheet data into formatted documents such as catalogs or event materials.
Guest access covers a broad set of these functions.
Signing in with an Adobe account adds generative features powered by Firefly, access to Creative Cloud files, and the ability to save progress across sessions.
When a task requires finer control, such as detailed layer work or precise masking, the results can be opened directly in the corresponding full Adobe application without starting over.
The plugin is available on ChatGPT web and the app, and it functions in both the standard interface and the Work and Codex modes designed for longer, multi-step tasks.
The timing raises questions about how much of an advance this represents.
Limited Adobe tools had already been present in ChatGPT for roughly 8 months. Generative image and design capabilities from other platforms had matured in parallel, and many users had already developed workarounds that mixed chat prompts with separate editing software.
Unifying a larger set of professional tools reduces some of that switching, yet the core pattern of conversational creation was already established. The expansion feels more like a consolidation than a sudden shift in how creative work gets done.
Adobe continues to develop Firefly as its own generative system, trained with an emphasis on commercially safer outputs and integrated across its desktop and web applications.
Relying solely on Firefly, however, would keep the tools inside Adobe’s ecosystem and require users to begin there.
ChatGPT offers a different distribution path.
It already serves as a daily starting point for large numbers of people who are brainstorming, researching, or managing projects.
Placing Adobe’s processing capabilities inside that interface reaches users who may never open a dedicated creative application first.
The partnership also fits a wider pattern in which Adobe is making its tools available across multiple AI platforms, including Claude and Copilot, with further integrations planned.
In that context, the OpenAI connection is less about choosing one generative model over another and more about meeting people in the conversational environments where a growing share of work now begins.
