Online encyclopedias have spent decades trying to keep pace with a world that updates faster than any editorial board can meet.
Wikipedia remains the default reference for millions of searches, yet its volunteer model, talk-page disputes, and source-selection debates have been a running argument for years.
Elon Musk accused Wikipedia of having a left-wing bias and spreading propaganda, and with that argument, his company created Grokipedia.
The project began in late September 2025 after a public exchange between Musk and David Sacks. Sacks argued that Wikipedia was hopelessly partisan. Musk announced that xAI would build an AI-written encyclopedia as a step toward the company's stated goal of understanding the universe, and as a way to reduce what he called propaganda in existing reference works.
The first public version, labeled 0.1, went live on October 2025 with roughly 885,000 articles, many of them generated from Wikipedia material under a Creative Commons license and then rewritten or fact-checked by Grok.
The site crashed under early traffic, recovered the same day, and grew quickly. A 0.2 release in November 2025 added a suggestion layer.
Now, version 0.3 arrived with little advance notice beyond a design teaser.
The change is mostly visual and navigational.
The homepage, previously a logo and a search box, now carries a v0.3 mark, a script wordmark, and the line "An open, comprehensive collection of all knowledge."
Featured articles appear as rotatable digital books. A "Most read" row is laid out as a scrolling shelf of spines. A live-edits panel lists recent reader proposals that Grok has checked and approved, with a running tally that has crossed one million approved edits.
The live page itself shows more changes at once.
Article pages received smaller polish: tighter line spacing and cleaner fact tables at the top.
The underlying editing model is unchanged.
Users still cannot rewrite entries. They submit suggestions. Grok accepts, rejects, or holds them. The site also still lets visitors name a topic and request a new article.
Recent live entries illustrate the workflow.
One update notes that Tesla deployed Cybercabs in Austin in early September 2026 for commercial robotaxi operations and that NHTSA opened an audit query on self-certification.
Another removes "upcoming" from a film page after release. A third flags outdated research details on a biographical entry.
Coverage remains uneven. High-profile pages have fresh "Fact-checked by Grok" timestamps. Others still show checks from months earlier.
SpaceXAI, which now operates the project after acquiring xAI, has not published detailed release notes beyond the design refresh.
Benji Taylor, head of design at X and SpaceXAI, called it a newly refreshed Grokipedia and said more improvements would follow.
Musk reposted news of the launch without additional comment.
The longer-term plan, stated earlier, is to rename the site Encyclopedia Galactica once the team considers the content good enough. For now it remains Grokipedia v0.3, an AI-mediated reference that has restarted after a quiet stretch and is trying to look more like a browsable library than a search box.
