Amazon AWS Ramps Up AI With Consultancy Services And More Rekognition Features

Amazon has announced two developments in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

First of all, AWS is opening a machine learning lab, ML Solutions Lab, that allows Amazon machine learning experts to work building solutions using AI technology for customers.

Available to any AWS Business Support customer, besides ramping up AI, it's also to improve its business consultancy, which is one of the selling point of providing IT services to corporate customers.

"We can’t wait for developers to start their journeys into machine learning with the Amazon ML Solutions Lab," said Swami Sivasubramanian, VP of Amazon AI, in a statement.

"By combining the expertise of the best machine learning scientists and practitioners at Amazon with the deep business knowledge of our customers, the Amazon ML Solutions Lab will help customers get up to speed on machine learning quickly, and start putting machine learning to work inside their organizations."

The second is introducing features within Amazon Rekognition, the company's deep learning-based image recognition platform, with real-time face recognition and the ability to recognize text in images.

The lab and the enhancements of Rekognition highlights Amazon and AWS push in the AI, all to improve and grow its B2B business in the field of machine learning.

With it, Amazon is putting more interest in monetizing AI for external customers, like for example, Pinterest.

Pinterest is one of Amazon's Rekognition customers.

While the vast majority of Pinterest's their visual search technology is developed in-house, Amazon's Rekognition usage is part of smaller project. Pinterest is also a customer of AWS for years, with millions of pins stored in Amazon's S3 cloud.

“We’re in the early stages of exploring Rekognition with Amazon to scale a subset of Pins in AWS S3, but continue to have a visual discovery team dedicated to building and scaling technologies within Pinterest," said Amazon.spokesperson.

"In working with Amazon Rekognition Text in Image, we can better extract the rich text captured in images at scale and with low latency for the millions of Pins stored in Amazon S3. We look forward to continuing to develop the partnership with AWS for high quality and fast experiences for Pinners and businesses on Pinterest," said Pinterest's CTO, Vanja Josifovski,

Amazon in introducing the two, came about a month after AWS announced that it would be collaborating with Microsoft on Gluon, a deep learning interface designed for developers to build and run machine learning models for their apps and other services.
