Facebook Encourages Users To Make More Friends By Launching "Discover People"

The social network giant Facebook is one of the internet service that has the largest user base. However, with the many posts and uploads at any given moment, the crowded social platform can be rather empty.

First of all, not all Facebook friends are 'friends.' And the second, connecting or creating real new friends can be difficult.

Facebook wants to solve the second problem, and that is by providing a feature to break the ice with a feature it called 'Discover People'. Rolling out worldwide for Android and iOS users, it allows users to see a list of user profiles who are attending the same events, as well as those that live in the same city or work in the same office.

And because the feature is meant to encourage users to introduce themselves and make more friends, and to also facilitate connections between people who aren't already Facebook friends, Discover People is only showing profiles that the user has not connected with yet.

Given to its design, it can also be used for business networking as well as dating purposes.

To use the feature, users can see it in the navigation section below Friends, Events, Groups, Nearby Places, and other options.

After tapping in the section, Facebook will asks users to introduce themselves. Facebook is also guiding users through their current profile and allows them to update some sections. Facebook is also encouraging users to update their bio and featured photo.

When users finish the process, they will see a list of upcoming events that meet the users' registered interest, have been invited or planned to attend. Tapping on the event will show a list of other Facebook users that may also be going.

Users can also browse through a list of people that live the same city or share the same employer.

Discover People was initially launched in 2016, but only limited to users in Australia and New Zealand. Facebook is now starting to roll out the feature globally.
