Facebook Introduces 'Manage Activity' So Users Can 'Archive Or Trash Old Posts'

Facebook Manage Activity

As time passes and people grow and get older, things will change. There is that uncertainty that makes life worth a living.

From graduation to entering college, to then enter the job market, or move from an old relationship to a new one, or moving from one place to another, there are things that are certain to happen.

This is why Facebook is introducing 'Manage Activity' so users can "curate your presence on Facebook to more accurately reflect who you are today."

Manage Activity that resides in the Activity Log, is essentially a tool to help users archive or trash old posts, all in one place.

The first feature of the tool, is the archive feature.

This feature is meant to quickly hide content users no longer want others to see on Facebook, but don't want them to be removed. This archive feature should help organize the content users want to keep for themselves.

"For example, you could archive a post you made when you were in high school that you still find amusing but that you’d rather not be seen by anyone else on Facebook," wrote Facebook in the announcement.

The second feature of the tool, is to trash old posts.

This way, users can quickly delete posts they no longer want. Posts that are removed, are placed in a temporary storage away from others' viewing for 30 days before being permanently deleted, unless users choose to manually delete them, or restore them before then.

"This gives you some wiggle room in case you change your mind about deleting old posts," explained Facebook.

And to make things simpler for users who have a lot of content shared on their profile, Manage Activity allows users to view and manage their posts in bulk.

Facebook has also developed specialized filters to help them sort and find what they're looking for.

Using the filter, users can quickly look for posts by content type, with specific people, or posts from a specific time range, for example.

Things in life change for better or worse, and people may want to put a lid on some of them.

And this particular tool can help users rid of embarrassing old posts en masse.

As people go though major life changes, there could be things that Facebook users want to keep secret. And this tool is helping users with that, by preventing them from going through that Facebook-awkward phase to explain their past activities.

Facebook said that Manage Activity would come first on mobile and Facebook Lite, before the social media is making it available for users on desktop.

"We’ll continue building new functionality for this tool to ensure it meets people’s needs to manage their digital footprint on Facebook," the company said.
