Google Photos

Google Photos has long been one of Google’s most beloved services.

It's a simple, reliable place to back up memories, organize library, and create quick highlights without touching complicated editing apps. Over the years, it has quietly become the default gallery for millions of Android users, and even many iPhone users rely on it for its smart search and easy sharing.

But now, in Google’s ongoing mission to develop feature to create new value for users, Google Photos is not absent on Google's list.

This is because now, Google is pushing 5 new updates to Google Photos, enhancing the tool into a new era where creativity isn't just an add-on, but the core of how the app works.

In a blog post, Google said that:

"Creating a highlight reel featuring multiple video clips and photos in Google Photos is simple: Just head to the Create tab and select 'highlight video,' pick the content you want included and Photos will create a single cohesive video for you."

"And now, creating and editing your videos is easier than ever with new features you've been asking for. From using ready-made templates and the redesigned video editor to adding music and custom text, here are five features you can use to create personalized videos right in Google Photos."

The additions include:

  1. Create shareable videos with templates: Rolling out to users on Android, this feature gives users pre-set formats with built-in music, text and cuts synced to a soundtrack. Just pick a template, select the photos and videos they want included and sit back while Photos automatically creates a shareable video that matches the beat. To do this, users can head to the Create tab and select 'highlight video' to get started.

  2. Easy-to-use redesigned video editor: Available on Android and iOS, the new editor is faster and easuer to use. It features a universal timeline that supports multi-clip editing and storytelling, along with an adaptive canvas for easier editing.
  3. Add soundtrack: Users can easily browse Photos' music library and pick the perfect soundtrack to add some emotion or bring out the right vibe to their highlight video on Android and iOS.
  4. Add custom text: Users can add custom text overlays, and stylize them with new fonts, colors and backgrounds.
  5. Edit and customize individual video clips: The redesigned editor is also now the default video editor on Android for quick and easy edits to individual video clips. Just open a video from the gallery and tap edit to get started. With the new editor, users can now add music and text to a single video clip for an even more custom look.

Together, all these updates signal a clear shift: Google is now moving it far beyond its traditional function as a secure online album and simple backup repository to become a fully integrated creative studio.

This transformation is driven by Google's commitment to democratizing video creation, ensuring that anyone, regardless of their editing expertise, can produce polished, professional-looking, and highly shareable videos in mere minutes, directly from their mobile device.
