The AI industry was quite dull and boring, before new inventions are made.

It was rather discrete before OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, which disrupted pretty much everything it touches. As a result of the hype, it sent rivals into frenzy, forcing them to come up with a solution to compete.

ChatGPT was introduced as an AI with a web interface. Later, OpenAI expanded it to have its own API.

With more than 100 million users in just two months after its introduction, there is no better way to get even more users, other than having its own mobile app.

And that is exactly what OpenAI is thinking, when it created, and then introduced ChatGPT as a mobile app.

Initially to iOS users in the U.S., the ChatGPT app allows even the most ordinary, and the most common mobile users to have access to the clever chatbot.

Basically, the ChatGPT app promises to put the powerful and the overly-hyped generative AI chatbot in people's pocket, saying in a statement that:

"Since the release of ChatGPT, we've heard from users that they love using ChatGPT on the go. Today, we’re launching the ChatGPT app for iOS."

"We're starting our rollout in the US and will expand to additional countries in the coming weeks. We're eager to see how you use the app. As we gather user feedback, we're committed to continuous feature and safety improvements for ChatGPT."

According to OpenAI, the things users can do in their interaction with the ChatGPT app, include:

  • Instant answers: Get information without sifting through ads or multiple results.
  • Tailored advice: Seek guidance on cooking, travel plans, or crafting messages.
  • Creative inspiration: Generate gift ideas, outline presentations, or write poem.
  • Professional input: Boost productivity with idea feedback, note summarization, and technical topic assistance.
  • Learning opportunities: Explore new languages, modern history, and more.

The app is free to use, and is able to sync users' chat history across devices.

What's more, it also integrates Whisper, which is OpenAI's open-source speech-recognition system, to allow voice input.

But again, subscribers get an advantage.

According to the company, ChatGPT Plus subscribers can get exclusive access to GPT-4’s capabilities, which is more powerful than the GPT-3.5 free users use.

Subscribers also get early access to new features and faster response times.

"We're starting our rollout in the US and will expand to additional countries in the coming weeks. We’re eager to see how you use the app. As we gather user feedback, we’re committed to continuous feature and safety improvements for ChatGPT," said OpenAI.

As for Android users, they have to wait for a bit longer, because "you're next!" said OpenAI in the announcement.
