Opera Wants To Bring The 'First Browser For Gaming' With 'Opera GX'

Opera browser may be as popular and as large as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, but still it's competing to become the best browser out there in the market.

The browser has the smallest market share among the three, but as a quality browser, the company behind the browser wants to offer something special and unique.

And this time, it's for gamers and alike, with the announcement of a gaming browser called 'Opera GX'.

According to Opera, the browser is "a new and special version of our browser made with those of you who play games in mind."

While Opera is not giving any further details about the browser, visiting www.opera.com/gx shows a glimpse of the gaming browser, with its dark theme and red accent color.

Opera has also given it a color picker that changes the browser's theme.

The side panel icons have links to Extensions, History, and Settings. There is also a new icon attached to the side panel that looks like a speed indicator, popularized by benchmarks and tweaking applications.

The main toolbar lists a gamepad icon next to that.

What is certain is that, Opera GX is based on Chromium, just like how the regular versions of the Opera browser are.

Chromium that is Google's open-source web browser project, is already powering numerous browsers, such as Amazon Silk, Avast Secure Browser, Brave, Samsung Internet and others.

With tech companies are already putting heavy emphasis on cloud-based gaming, a gaming-focused browser makes more sense than ever before. And here, Opera seems to be positive about becoming one of the crowd.

Opera doesn’t have have the same market command in the browser space as it used to have.

The browser only has 1 percent of the browser market, and for that reason, Opera GX would only see a fraction of that share. So what's clear here is that, the browser won't have a big audience.

But still, Opera GX can help the company create a niche. And this time, it's for gamers.

Opera Software might implement all sorts of gaming optimizations in the browser to improve the gaming experience; that may range from the removal of features that impact CPU or memory, to speed and memory tweaks.

Gaming could also mean that Opera GX features new design options, as these are quite popular in certain gaming communities.

Some suggested that the browser would be centered around Opera following the introduction of a gaming feature on the Vivaldi browser. While Opera claims the new browser is "the first browser built for your gaming setup", Vivaldi has launched a feature to link the browser with Razer Chroma devices.

Others suggested that Opera would rather improve its Opera Reborn 3, than experimenting with new things.
