Pinterest Redesigns To Prioritize Visuals: Putting Personalized Pins Front And Center

Pinterest

A change is a must to meet the everchanging demands. On Pinterest, a redesign has been made to better showcase what Pins it can recommend.

After it was spotted several times by its users, Pinterest officially confirmed the roll out of its updated Pin format. The updated look doesn't add anything much, and includes only some minor functional tweaks. But the first best interest is with Pinterest separating each Pin element for more specific focus.

Considering that Pinterest is one of the popular sources for inspiration, shifting some things around with "more immersive design" and a focus to streamline user behavior, can translate to more engagements.

According to Pinterest on its announcement:

"Our updated look for iOS and Android makes Pinterest even more visual, with personalized recommendations front and center in your home feed and reduced space around Pins to celebrate the content."

For example, the update increases the size of the main Pin image. This update should give the Pin an increased focus and visibility. With minimal borders, the update should also increased the Pin's appeal.

Other key elements which have been updated are:

  • Search is put in the main navigation bar, where users can easily access personalized and trending searches.
  • The following tab is put at the top of the home feed, where users can find new ideas from the people they follow, in chronological order.
  • Ideas for users' most recently engaged boards appear at the top of home feed. This way, they can quickly jump into recommended Pins for the projects.
  • An updated Profile and board view make it easier for users to find the Pins they’ve saved.

What's more, the design update is more specifically aligned with vertical, mobile viewing.

This should appeal those who love browsing Pinterest's Pins on their mobile phones. Even more, the design makes it look like the presentation of Stories on other platform, which should again appeal users.

Pinterest also redesigned its section to be more clearly separated, with rounded edges defining each element, also to better showcase what users can do which each Pins, using a feature that was previously introduced, for example.

The changes also align with Pinterest's updated business profile format, which it announced earlier in September.

The changes are subtle. But by clearly putting the most important things to where people would access the most, should make Pinterest a more engaging platform.

It took Pinterest several months to make this redesign official. And here, the platform is rolling out the updated looks gradually to all users.
