Reddit Partners With Foursquare To Add Geotagging Feature On Posts

Foursquare - Reddit

Since the internet can be used by anyone around the globe, social platforms are increasingly adding support for geotagging posts.

From Facebook to Twitter and Snapchat, the "front page of the internet" Reddit is joining the crowd by partnering with Foursquare.

What makes the feature interesting in that unlike other social platforms, Reddit has a majority of its users interacting with the communities using a certain degree of anonymity and privacy. To use Reddit, users don't need to enter their real name and email address, or connect the account to their social network to post new contents or to comment.

Geotagging here is like against Reddit's nature. This is the reason why the feature is turned off by default.

What this means, users aren't forced to add location tags to their posts if they don't want to. Users never have to select a location, and neither Reddit nor Foursquare will store or share that data.

According to David Ban, Foursquare director of business development:

""The Reddit team cares deeply about finding ways to enhance the creator experience on their platform, and Foursquare's API is a natural addition, providing key location context when it’s needed."

Foursquare location intelligence has been used by some of the world's tech giants, such as Apple and Samsung, as well as more than 100,000 developers.

Reddit has been busy in updating its interface to improve users' experience. With geotagging feature, users can add context or interest to their post by geotagging specific venue or location. Since Reddit is one of the most vibrant communities on the web, the feature can make things a bit more interesting there.
