Runway Launches 'FOOM!', A 24/7 Broadcast To Showcase The Emerging AI Culture And Whatever Comes With It

Runway, this is FOOM!

Runway has launched FOOM!, a 24/7 broadcast channel dedicated entirely to AI culture.

Unlike models it previously known to create, FOOM! is conceived as a continuous stream of content: weekly shows, interviews, films, research discussions, livestreams, and what Runway calls "endless inspiration." The idea is to make AI more than just a back-end technology.

FOOM! aims to show how creativity, culture, narrative, and human expression are intertwined with AI.

During the time when people are extensively using large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT from OpenAI that started this overall AI race, and many others that also include Runway Act-One, Act-Two, and the more recent Aleph, Runway wants to showcase "what AI can do," by giving viewers get a chance to see how people are using it.

Like how creatives, researchers, filmmakers and other professionals showing the process, stories, challenges, insights.

It's also open for anyone who wishes to be featured.

"Have an idea for a show you want to air on FOOM!? Share it with us. We're looking for daily, weekly or monthly programming, everything from late shows to scripted series," said Runway.

At this time, Runway already has 'Watch' which acts like an internet "TV" streaming platform for AI-generated content, like films, short videos, experimental art, etc.

FOOM! is built on that idea, and gives structure for things like shows, interviews, curated content around that stream of creative output.

As a streaming video that is online 24/7, FOOM! can help bridge the gap between AI as a tool and AI as a cultural force.

For example, instead of users just generating visuals, FOOM! could become a space to discuss ethics, aesthetics, storytelling norms in AI, new formats emerging for video art, media produced with machine learning models, etc. The “research discussions” and “inspiration” parts promise more than we often get—this could foster learning and reflection, not just entertainment.

There are challenges, of course. Constant streaming requires workable content pipelines, quality control, curation so it doesn’t become noise.

Also there’s the risk that some content is more hype than substance, and more like a place to bombard ads.

In summary, FOOM! represents a step by Runway to move beyond just creating AI models and tools, into shaping an ongoing cultural conversation.

For creators, technologists, and observers, it offers a regular place to see what’s happening, explore ideas, and possibly chart where AI in media is headed next.
