WhatsApp Updates Desktop App To Support Third-Party Stickers, And More

WhatsApp is the ubiquitous messaging app, used by more than 2 billion people around the world.

While it's name is almost synonymous with mobile messaging, using WhatsApp in a PC is pretty easy and also straightforward.

Users can use it through their web browser via web.whatsapp.com, or download a dedicated desktop client that makes it even more convenient.

With notification support and audio alerts, WhatsApp's desktop app behaves very much like WhatsApp app on mobile, or a native Windows messenger on Windows.

And this time, WhatsApp is making its desktop app even more intuitive by launching version 2.2049.8.0 on Windows 10, which introduces more improvements for the messaging experience.

Most notably among others, is the support for third-party stickers.

WhatsApp has already supported first- and third-party sticker packs on the web.whatsapp.com. But the latter are finally making their way to the desktop app with an updated version of the downloadable client.

Stickers are already the big thing for the Facebook-owned company.

As detailed illustrations of characters or things to represent emotions or actions, stickers are literally a mix of cartoons, emojis, and even photos, that can be either static or animated.

Stickers are born from the culture of sending emoticons to represent the "reaction faces" of users.

Stickers that can include more information in their images other than just emotions, through customization and support from dedicated apps, they allow people to communicate through various imagery of anything imaginable.

With the desktop client update, any third-party sticker pack that exists on users' mobile device in WhatsApp will be synced with the desktop too, meaning that users are provided with the same messaging experience even on the bigger screen.

The latest update also brings more bug fixes and improvements, so overall, the app should feel smoother and be more reliable on Windows devices.

Beyond the extended sticker support, the update also fixed and patched a range of bugs found in the desktop client.

According to WABetaInfo, the updated version of WhatsApp's desktop client also introduced some color changes, like a tweak to the chat bubbles that can be switched to a dark green variant when WhatsApp Web is set to dark mode in order to make text a bit easier to read.
