X Launches New Photo Editor In Post Composer With Grok AI Integration, With Special Add-Ons Included

X

X has introduced a new photo editor integrated directly into its post composer. The feature was announced by Nikita Bier, head of product at X.

The feature in question adds several editing options that allow users to modify images while preparing a post, eliminating the need for external applications in many cases. The editor includes standard tools such as drawing directly on an image and adding text overlays. These address long-standing user requests for basic annotation features.

It also includes a blur tool that enables users to obscure specific areas of a photo, such as faces, license plates, text, or other sensitive details, for redaction and privacy purposes. The blur can be applied selectively with a brush, offering more precision than simple cropping.

A key addition is the "edit with words" function, powered by Grok. This allows users to type natural language prompts to generate changes to the image.

In the official demonstration video, a detailed digital artwork by artist Beeple was used as the example. Prompts such as "exhibit this painting in a museum" and "hang it in the Louvre" transformed the original chaotic scene into versions showing the artwork displayed in those settings. The generative edits are processed within the composer itself.

The photo editor is currently available only on the iOS version of the X app. Android support has been confirmed as "coming soon," though no specific release date was provided. There has been no mention yet of availability on the web version of the platform.

This update brings X’s image editing capabilities closer to those offered by other services.

Google Photos, for instance, has provided conversational editing using its Gemini model since 2025. X's version stands out by embedding the tools directly into the posting flow and tying the generative features to Grok, the AI system from xAI.

Initial user feedback on the platform has been mostly practical.

Many have highlighted the usefulness of the blur tool for quick redactions and the convenience of having drawing and text tools built in. Others have experimented with the Grok-powered edits for creative purposes. Some users have requested faster rollout to Android and web, noting that limited platform availability reduces the feature’s immediate usefulness for the full user base.

Overall, the new photo editor expands the options available for preparing and modifying images on X.

It combines conventional editing functions with AI-driven generative tools, aiming to simplify the workflow for sharing visual content. iOS users can try the feature immediately by starting a new post and selecting or capturing a photo.
