And each of the factor can experience issues that can in turn affect uptime.

This time, hundreds of millions of users around the world were unable to access Gmail, YouTube, Maps and other Google-owned family of apps, for about an hour. Even its most resilient Google Search was inaccessible, despite only briefly.

To the services that experienced outage, Google showed the following notice:

We're sorry, but your account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes. You can view the G Suite Status Dashboard for the current status of the service.

Google released a statement saying that it experienced an "internal storage" issue.

The issue happened when the many Google services were experiencing too many users logging in at the same time, which hit the services at a higher rate than they could handle.

In other words, the outage was related to the many Google services that require a Google sign in to authorization.

Google said in the statement that the problems affected "the majority" of each services' users, but did not provide an exact number.

Outages at online companies like Google are very rare.

But still, issues like these can happen once in a while. Some can happen because of a server misconfiguration, human error, and so forth.

This is why at moments like these. many internet users go to social media networks as an opportunity to poke fun at the tech giant.

The first service that was fixed, was Gmail.

"Gmail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change," said Google.

This was then followed by other services, with Google saying that "the authentication system issue was resolved at 4:32AM PT. All services are now restored."

"We apologise to everyone affected, and we will conduct a thorough follow up review to ensure this problem cannot recur in the future."
