After leaving MojoNation in April 2001, Bram Cohen a former University at Buffalo, began his work on BitTorrent. He unveiled his ideas at the first CodeCon conference.
BitTorrent is a protocol that underpins the practice of peer-to-peer file sharing and is used for distributing large amounts of data over the internet. For users to use the protocol, they need to use BitTorrent clients, a program that implements BitTorrent protocols such as μTorrent, Xunlei, Transmission, qBittorrent, Vuze, Deluge, and BitComet.
The first released version of BitTorrent was on July 2001.
