Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! is a 1986 Japanese animated adventure comedy film, based on the Super Mario Bros. video game.
The film was released, initially in Japan, during the time Mario was already popular character.
To further market the film, Nintendo partnered with the production team to release Mario phone cards, watches, rice containers, ramen noodles, a manga, an art book, three riddle books, a picture book, and an original soundtrack released on both vinyl and cassette.
When it was first released in theaters on July 20, 1986, the anime was a huge hit.
The film however, was more notable for being the first movie based on a video game.

This makes it part of the pop culture in general.
And this time and for the first time ever, the film has been remastered to 4K, and has been made available on YouTube and available for download at the Internet Archive.
"This comes from a 16mm reduction print likely used for small, local screenings back in the day when it was released," the video description said.
Although the film has been available to watch online for more than many years, the remaster is the best version.
Not only that its quality has been improve to 4K, as the restoration has also made the result cleaner, and color corrected. The version also has an updated subtitle for better experience.
"We were able to clean it up super nicely (although some scratches were unable to be completely removed)," the team explained, saying that they've spent months removing dirt, dust, and scratches from its physical copy.
"Thousands of individual pieces of debris were manually removed for this restoration."
And to improve the quality of the sound, the audio has been taken from the film's VHS copy.
"The VHS was originally released with 2-channel Dolby Surround, which is preserved in the audio capture here," said Femboy Films. "This reflects most accurately how the film would have sounded in cinemas, as it was released with 4-channel Dolby Stereo there."
And to wrap everything up, the team designed a new scan from the film’s original art books.
