The Viral Gay Sex Tape Between An Alleged Malaysian Minister And An Official

14/06/2019

Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz has always been into politics, and he had a great career ahead of him.

According to sources, the Malaysian politician was born in 1992, and is a Bachelor of Law degree graduate. He then became the principal private secretary of Deputy Minister of Primary Industries Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md. Akin since January 19.

Coming from a respectable family in Kuching, Haziq was also involved in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), and founded the PKR Students Wing in 2012 at Universiti Malaya (UM).

Because of this, Haziq has high connections, and even went to the cinema with a high-ranking politician.

Haziq shared this moment when he posted a photograph of himself with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his family after watching the movie Avengers: Endgame.

"Second time watching the movie. This time with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Avengers, assemble!" he said in a social media post.

He was never seen being a gay.

As a matter of fact, it was reported that Aziz was already in a steady relationship with a woman for years.

But the reputation he has built, collapsed when a gay sex tape video between two men allegedly involved Haziq was spreading on the internet.

In the video, that happened to be shot at a Four Points Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, showed the alleged Haziq engaging in a gay sex with Malaysia's Cabinet minister, Azmin Ali.

The video that was first shared on the messaging app WhatsApp, quickly went viral, and spread even further when it was also shared on social media platforms.

Because of this, Haziq who stopped communicating with his close friends and his family a day since the video went viral, had no choice but to confess that the man in the video is indeed him.

"I, Haziq Haziz... made a sworn confession that I am the individual with... [the minister's name is mentioned] in the video which went viral yesterday. The video was taken without my permission on May 11 (during the) Sandakan by-election [in Sabah] in the [minister's] room at Hotel Four Points."

"I urge MACC to investigate [the minister] for corruption. He is not an individual who is qualified to be a leader."

Haziq is a man that is easily influenced.

For example, he was once very much a supporter of Barisan Nasional (BN), before supporting Pakatan Harapan (PH), before switching back again.

Haziq was also very much into activism on campus.

For example, he was once suspended in 2012 for having taken part in the anti-PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corporation) demonstration in Dataran Merdeka and vandalizing photographs of national leaders. Haziq and two other students were fined and suspended after they were found guilty of having hung funeral garlands on national leaders' photographs.

After graduating, Haziq practiced law for a short while in Sarawak.

In fact, he was practicing two months before he joined the minister's team as an aide.

As for the sex tape, Haziq confessed, but Azmin denied his involvement.

Until 16 July 2019, nine people had been arrested by Royal Malaysia Police in the investigation regarding their involvement in making and distribution of the sex tape.

These people include Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak who is PKR Perak state chairman and Anwar Ibrahim's political secretary, and Haziq himself who admitted that he was the person in the video.

Haziq has long wanted to run for public office in the future, but his dreams have been dashed following the sex video scandal.

Haziq was arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on June 14 as he was about to board a flight to Manila. He said that he was not trying to flee to the Philippines, but wanted a short break because he was “too stressed”.

He has since been released on a police bail.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in Malaysia face legal challenges, and sexual acts involving gay are considered a crime in the country, with laws strictly enforced, and social attitudes towards the LGBT community that are shaped by Islam, the official state religion of Malaysia.

It's worth noting though, that on 18 July 2019, the Inspector General of Police, Abdul Hamid Bador said that although the video was authentic, the individuals in the video are unidentifiable.

He also stated that the police investigation found that a group of individuals who made the video were paid thousand of Ringgits, and the video circulation was masterminded by a leader of a political party, with the intention to degrade and defame Azmin's reputation.

Mahathir Mohamad, who was at the time, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, said that he believe that the sex tape is fake, saying that technology would allow such things to be fabricated.
