Elon Musk Criticized For His Biased Stance: Caught Between The Hamas-Israel War

29/11/2023

In a war, it's all about two or more sides confronting each other, in a battle to victor.

To spectators and those that aren't involved directly or indirectly, they can choose which side to support. And during war, being on the same side with someone powerful, influential and resourceful can certainly boost one's moral.

And Elon Musk is caught himself in between two sides, who apparently wants him to be on their side.

Musk, the billionaire and owner of X (formerly Twitter), SpaceX, Tesla and more, has been involved in several controversies regarding his stance on the war between Israel and Hamas.

Things escalated to whole different level when he said that Twitter would be "donating all revenue from advertising & subscriptions associated with the war in Gaza to hospitals in Israel" and to a humanitarian organization operating in Gaza.

While Musk named the International Red Cross and Red Crescent, which has distributed medical supplies to Gazans, as specific beneficiaries., in replies to his own post, he seemed to be unsure how he would do it.

"Better ideas are welcome," he said.

"Ok, what is a better way to help kids in Gaza? Maybe just direct purchase of pediatric medical supplies?"

The promise comes as he faces sharp criticism that his site is helping to spread Hamas propaganda and as advertisers stage an exodus over his recent endorsement of an antisemitic post.

A week before this, Musk endorsed a tweet that shared a variant of the antisemitic "Great Replacement" theory, writing in response, "You have said the actual truth."

The "Great Replacement Theory" (GRT) is an anti-immigrant and antisemitic conspiracy theory that claims Jewish people and left-wing groups are seeking to "replace White people" in Europe and America with "inferior stock" from South America, Africa and Asia.

The claim that came from a white nationalist claims to replace the "superior" people through mass migration, demographic growth and a drop in the birth rate of White Europeans.

While mainstream scholars have dismissed these claims, the claims continue to be a racist's view of the world.

But at the same time he also vowed to suspend any accounts that tweeted pro-Palestinian phrases including "decolonization" and "from the river to the sea," calling them incitements to genocide.

In other words, Musk tried to be the man in between, and side with no one, but while seemingly siding with both at the same time.

And the criticisms towards Musk's bias and stance escalated when he visited Israel on November 29, 2023, where he showed his solidarity with the victims of the sudden October 7 attack by the Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Israelis and the abduction of more than 200 people.

There, he met and was greeted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

He was then showed the locations and sites of the Hamas assault on the Gaza border, and visited the families of the hostages.

Musk expressed his commitment to do whatever was necessary to stop the spread of hatred.

Musk’s visit to Israel has sparked mixed reactions from the world.

While some praised him for his humanitarian gesture, some people started showing disgust because of how Musk showed his support for Israel’s right to defend itself. While he calls for world peace and condemns war, Musk has expressed support for Israel and called for the "re-education" of Gaza and the elimination of Hamas.

He has also suggested that Israel should engage in "conspicuous acts of kindness" towards the people of Gaza to thwart the goals of Hamas.

However, he has also faced criticism for providing Starlink satellite internet service to Gaza, which some Israeli officials claimed could be used by Hamas for military purposes.

Others condemn him for his alleged bias and his role in spreading misinformation and antisemitism on his platform.

Some said that he is pro with the Zionists, but at times, show that he is also antisemitic, accused of endorsing antisemitic posts on his social media platform.

Some began to worry that Musk's visit to Israel is a way for the Israeli to indoctrinate him into Zionist propaganda.

After all, Musk was only shown the pain the Israeli's endured during the attacks, and not what the Palestinians felt.

Because of this, Hamas who accused Musk of being a "Zionist agent" and a "war profiteer," wants to show him something as an eye opener.

The militant group that controls Gaza, also invited Musk to visit Gaza to "see the extent of the destruction caused by the Israeli bombardment," and to witness the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Following Musk's visit to Israel and among others, BoycottX, or #BoikotX in Indonesia and countries that side with Palestine and oppose Israeli's oppression become trending topics.
