Explicit 'AI Girlfriend' Ads And Deepfake Apps Plaguing Apple, Google And Meta

Fetish is one's hidden desire. But things are not hidden anymore because AI is lending a hand.

Since generative AIs gain traction, thanks to OpenAI with ChatGPT that helped popularize the trend, people began wondering how far they could go, or do with the AI.

Because the technology has been trained with data from the internet, this can make generative AI extremely intelligent, engaging, powerful, intuitive, and customizable.

And because of that, as more and more technologies that power generative AIs are introduced, a new class of AI chatbots were born.

These chatbots are less about helping users study or work, or getting things done.

They're more into activities that include the fulfillment of human fantasies.

Knowing that the demand is high, a lot of developers try to benefit from the trend, by creating AI chatbots that can play the role as girlfriends.

What began as AIs that can generate faces of people that don't exist, and nudes that don't exist, generative AI chatbots enhance everything, by allowing users to engage with them, generate AI-made pornographic images, as well as creating suggestive texts.

To reach their potential audience, the developers market them through platforms, like Facebook and Instagram.

According to a review from Wired, Meta’s advertisement library hosted at least 29,000 ads for explicit AI girlfriend bots published across its social media platforms.

But because many of these ads violate its policies, the company said that it's continuously reviewing the ads, and remove those that violate.

"When we identify violating ads we work quickly to remove them, as we’re doing here," a Meta spokesperson said.

"We continue to improve our systems, including how we detect ads and behavior that go against our policies."

The violation resides on the nature of the ads.

"Because ads may be delivered to people in their Feed from Pages or accounts they don’t follow, we want to help ensure that the ads don’t detract from the overall experience across our technologies. For that reason, we prohibit ads containing shocking, sensational, or excessively violent content, certain adult content and profanity," explained Meta’s advertisement guidelines.

App Store

As for Apple, the company took a firm stance against deepfake apps.

Following the rise of generative AI, it has become easy for anyone to create deepfakes. With these apps being on its App Store, Apple is seeing them as a threat to users.

The iPhone-maker swiftly removed a bunch of these deepfake apps because they can be misused, and can be a breeding ground for revenge porn

Some of the apps, for example, offered features such as face-swaps on adult images. Others were marketed as "Undress" apps, which can virtually strip the clothing off of subjects of otherwise innocuous photos.

Apple's guideline explicitly warns app developers that their apps should not "offend people".

If found guilty, they will be face sanctions and can even get banned from the platform without any notice.

"Apps should not include content that is offensive, insensitive, upsetting, intended to disgust, in exceptionally poor taste, or just plain creepy. Apps with user-generated content or services that end up being used primarily for pornographic content, Chatroulette-style experiences, objectification of real people (e.g. “hot-or-not” voting), making physical threats, or bullying do not belong on the App Store and may be removed without notice," reads Apple Review guidelines.

Taylor Swift AI
Just one of the several AI-generated photos of Taylor Swift engaging in sex acts with fictional characters.

And as for Google, the company said that it has removed ads for apps that use AI to generate deepfake nudes from their app stores.

Deepfake nudes have been a big problem in the early age of generative AI, with AI-generated nudes of Taylor Swift flooding social media in January.

OpenAI dealt with a similar problem in January, when AI girlfriend chatbots flooded its new GPT store, calling themselves names such as "Korean Girlfriend," "Virtual Sweetheart," "Your girlfriend Scarlett," and "Your AI girlfriend, Tsu."

On the internet, there is the so-called Rule 34, and it's already the pop culture of the web.

And this, has indirectly affect sex workers who live from selling their content online.

When deepfake was first made to create fake pornography, generative AI took this a step further, and give users the ability to create custom porn based on their liking and preferences.

As AIs become smarter, AI-made porn can be made, using little less than typing simple text prompts, or even voice command.
