Facebook's Open Compute Project

Facebook announced the Open Compute Project initiative to openly share designs of data center products. The non-profit incorporated in Delaware.

The effort came out of a redesign of Facebook's data center in Prineville, Oregon. At that time, the company admitted that the design still have a long way before going live. Some of its aspects were published and used in the data center to improve the energy efficiency.

The aim is to create an efficient, reliable, easy to maintain high disk density storage and data center products that are both effective and powerful.
