Politics is one thing, because behind the scene, politicians can also engage in sex with other politicians.
And this time, a sex tape that featured lawmaker Karolin Margret Natasha and Aria Bima has gone viral on the internet.
The video depicts a man and a woman in what looks like a hotel room, recording their passionate lovemaking.
The video is about six minutes long, shows a woman that has a striking resemblance to the PDI-P lawmaker.
Karolin, who is an Indonesian PDI-P party politician, a doctor, and also the daughter of West Kalimantan’s governor and a member of House Commission IX, has repeatedly denied allegations that she's the woman in the leaked tape. She claims that the widely circulated video was fabricated and released for political purposes.
As for Aria, he too has denied his involvement in the video.
The sex tape was first uploaded to the internet in April 2012, and it quickly went viral.
While it's clear that the sex tape involve a man and a woman engaging in sexual acts and a steamy intercourse, the quality of the sex tape is low.
This makes it difficult for anyone, including the authorities, to justify the identity of the two individuals.
"We have explained about this since October last year — our investigators have also conveyed the result of the investigation to the House of Representatives’ leader — that we were having difficulties in the investigative process, especially the sex tape because of its poor quality," said National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar.
Boy also said that the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) had reported the inconclusive results of the investigation to the House’s Ethics Council, after that body asked police to find out whether or not the woman in the sex tape was Karolin.
"The process of identifying the face of the woman in the sex tape could not be carried out properly because of the angle of the tape, it was not enough to be identified scientifically, unless the tape was in high definition so we could analyze it from different angles," he added.
Regardless of the authenticity of the sex tape, and whether or not the woman in the video is Karolin, the scandal has since made helped Karolin propel her career in the Indonesian politics.
Of the 560 members elected to the DPR (Indonesia's People's Representative Council) in the 2014-2019 season, Karolin topped all of them.
With her 397,481 votes she received, she defeated the likes of Puan Maharani’s 369,927 and Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono’s 243,747.
Here, Karolin managed to beat the two children of two Indonesian Presidents.
It didn't take long after this, that the case eventually slip under the radar.
As newer members of the DPR are taking over, less people talk about the scandal, as if burying it, considering it to never have happened.
It's worth noting that at the time when the alleged sex video was made, Karolin was still married to her first husband, Andreas Adhy Nugroho. In his defense, Aria said that he knew both Karolin and her husband, and has asked Karolin and her husband's permission before giving any clarification to the public about the case.
