American actor and musician Jeff Goldblum has been acting since 1974, when he first starred as a home-invading thug in the 1974 Charles Bronson film Death Wish.
With more than a hundred of movies under his belt, including Earth Girls Are Easy, The Tall Guy, Vibes, Into the Night, Independence Day and many more, it was his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Jurassic Park that made him the internet daddy.
While it was at David Cronenberg’s The Fly that the audiences were first shown his bare chest, it was Goldblum's role in visual-effects-heavy blockbuster Jurassic Park that led to the creation of several memes.
All were made as the citizens of the internet are showing their love to Goldblum with his shirt wide open.
Malcolm in the movie wasn't really trying to seduce anyone.
In the role, Goldblum's character had his leg broken after being chased and thrown into a restroom hut by the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex. He managed to survive because he was hidden from the Rex's sight after being covered by leaves.
After being rescued by Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and warden Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck) and put on a Jeep, the three escaped a short but intense chase by the Rex. Later in the movie, Malcolm assisted the team in creating a plan to power up the grid, while other characters were dealing with the cunning Velociraptors.
Malcolm was laid on a table in the Jurassic Park headquarter to keep him from using his leg.
It was that time that the mathematician who specializes in a branch of mathematics known as "Chaos Theory", posed 'sensually' with his chest exposed bare.
The moment was totally unscripted. In an interview with Yahoo!, Goldblum said that the decision was made purely by him.
"It’s supposed to be Costa Rica, right? So things are hot and I’m sure I’m in some sort of fever. So all the logic is that we gotta get some of these wet clothes off immediately. As I remember, I don’t think anybody fought me on that," Goldblum recalled of the scene.
Malcolm which was portrayed by Goldblum, showed his charm.
It's because of his unique character portrayal, and the way he casually posed for the camera despite his injuries, that the citizens of the internet simply were all over him.
That happened years after the movie was first shown in theaters.
Most of the images, memes, GIFs often include a text overlay, but also took many forms to fit whatever the situation is needed.
For example, Malcolm with his bare chest was overlaid with text from Titanic — “Paint me like one of your French girls”, transformed into an animated GIF where Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) is resting his head on Malcolm’s breathing chest like he once did on a Triceratops in the Jurassic Park movie.
When asked if he had seen the GIF, Neill said yes and that “it is stomach-churning.”
In other words, Jeff Goldblum's bare chest scene is used whenever, wherever, and for whatever purpose. Goldblum's pose became a multi-purpose meme that exists solely to appreciate his charm.
This specific pose was even immortalized as a Pop Funko plastic figurine to celebrate Jurassic Park’s 25th anniversary.
According to reports, the massive 25-foot statue of Goldblum on the south bank of the Thames River in London, England, took six weeks and 250 hours to create.
Goldblum received the memes and all with his sense of humor.
He even once briefly recreated the pose and even stroked the exposed nipple on his Pop Funko statue.
As a celebrity, Goldblum is also active on social media networks, like on Instagram where he posts photos of himself, his family, and him with colorful Prada shirts.
He even admitted that he “does too much” Insta-browsing – including on his own hashtag.
