Jennifer Aniston literally broke Instagram shortly after her debut with an epic Friends selfie.
The first photo on the account went live on 15 October, at 6:03am PDT, with Aniston taking a selfie, and giving it the caption: "And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM".
In the selfie, she was with her fellow co-stars from the show: Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), and Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing).
With the sudden influx of followers, likes and comments, and add that with the influence of her fellow blue-ticked verified celebrities who also quickly poured in to respond to her post, quickly, Instagram was caught by storm.
That moment was unsuspected by the Facebook-owned platform, as it suddenly experienced some technical issues.
As a result, some users reported that they had difficulties when wanting to follow Aniston's account.
And even before she even shared anymore posts, that one photo has garnered Aniston with more followers that actresses like Jennifer Garner (7 million), Julia Roberts (6 million), Nicole Kidman (5 million), Charlize Theron (4 million) and Shailene Woodley (4 million).
While the issues didn't last long, Aniston managed to broke another thing: The Guinness World Records.
Shortly after her debut, it was announced that Aniston had broken the record for the fastest time for an Instagram account to reach 1 million followers, in which she reached the milestone in just five hours and 16 minutes.
Before that, the record belonged the Instagram account for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The account reached 1 million followers in April in five hours and 45 minutes.
And before that, the record belonged to the K-pop star Kang Daniel, who reached 1 million followers in 11 hours and 36 minutes. And before that, the record was held by Argentina's Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio whose account reached 1 million in 12 hours after debuting the verified Vatican Media channel 'franciscus' back in 2016.
In her second post, Aniston took her time to apologize for causing Instagram to have issues, saying that: "I swear I didn’t mean to break it..." she wrote. "Thank you guys for the kind, glitchy welcome."
This was confirmed by a spokesperson for Instagram.
"We are aware that some people were having issues following Jen's profile," said the spokesperson. "We are thrilled to have this 'Friend' as part of the Instagram community."
As an A-list actress, Aniston is no stranger to record-breaking feats.
Previously, she was the record title holder for the highest paid TV actress per episode with her fellow Friends cast members. She was also once the record holder of the most powerful actress record, a title she shared with Angelina Jolie after the two were featured in the Forbes 100 Celebrity List.
Aniston’s launch of her official Instagram was just in time for her Apple TV show, The Morning Show, which was set to be streamed on November 1.
Instagram is somehow unlike Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat. As a media-oriented platform, Instagram has the reputation for being a less-trolly environment. This makes Instagram safer for celebrities.
In a later interview about this matter, Aniston confessed that her Instagram-breaking debut wasn't actually her first. She said that before having her official Instagram, she had a secret account.
"It was a stalker account, yes," she said. "But I was thinking about doing this [starting a real one]."
