There was a time when records were stored inside tapes, and then CDs, and then inside portable devices.
With the internet, data can be accessed from anywhere in the world, as long as there is connection. And as the internet becomes more common and connectivity improved, records are then stored inside the clouds.
There are a handful companies that host music inside the clouds, allowing subscribers to browse millions and millions of tracks, and listen to the almost every genre is existence.
The streaming services allow users to carry more hours of music inside their pockets, than can life in their bodies.
Yet, not every music is available.
Among the number of music the internet lacked, was Aaliyah’s 1996 album “One in a Million”, which was long overdue to be migrated to the digital realm.
Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born in January 16, 1979.
The American singer was also an actress, dancer, and a model. Among her list of achievements, she was credited for helping redefine contemporary R&B, pop and hip hop.
These earned her the nicknames the "Princess of R&B" and "Queen of Urban Pop".
However, Aaliyah died on August 25, 2001, when a twin-engine Cessna 402 light aircraft the star and her team were in, crashed and caught fire shortly after taking off from Bahamas.
Aaliyah and eight others on board: pilot Luis Morales III, hair stylist Eric Forman, Anthony Dodd, security guard Scott Gallin, family friend Keith Wallace, make-up stylist Christopher Maldonado, and Blackground Records employees Douglas Kratz and Gina Smith, were all killed in the tragic incident.
She was only 22.
During her lifetime, Aaliyah was viewed by others as a role model.
And her second album, One in a Million, is a double platinum.
Apparently, it took streaming services a full 25 years before including the album on its list.
One in a Million was the second studio album from Aaliyah. It was first released on August 13, 1996, by Blackground and Atlantic Records.
The album was recorded from August 1995 to July 1996 with a variety of producers, including Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Carl-So-Lowe, J. Dibbs, Jermaine Dupri, Kay Gee, Vincent Herbert, Rodney Jerkins, Craig King, Darren Lighty and Darryl Simmons. The album also featured a number of guest vocalists, including Elliott, Timbaland, Treach and Slick Rick.
One in a Million garnered generally positive reviews from music critics.
It debuted at number 20 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 180,000 copies in its first week, and later peaked at number 18.
Months later, the album proved Aaliyah's breakthrough and a major milestone in the careers of Elliott and Timbaland,
Among the reasons of the prolonged inclusion of the album to streaming services, was because of a family dispute between her label (run by Aaliyah's uncle Barry Hankerson) and her estate (overseen by her mother, Diane Haughton, and her brother, Rashad Haughton).
It was reported that both parties have blamed the other for keeping Aaliyah’s music out from the internet..
