The Viral Videos Of A 'Mountain Filled With Gold' In Congo Creates A Gold Rush

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the country in Central Africa that is the largest country in sub-Saharan Africa and the second-largest in all of Africa, gold is abundance.

In the country, both local and international groups have been after its gold, diamonds, oil, and cobalt.

And in a video that went viral on Twitter, has made many locals that are mostly villagers, to rush with shovels to dig in what is said to be a mountain of gold.

Some even dug with their bare hands, or with any other tools they could find. They then collect their findings into gunny sacks they brought with them.

In the other video, the people washed off the dirt and soil using water to extract the ores.

As the news started spreading, a large number of people from around the country, and elsewhere, started pouring in.

What makes gold an expensive element, is because it's considered a noble metal, meaning that it resists oxidation and corrosion.

Gold is also expensive because it's considered a precious metal, highly popular, and because of the cost of producing it.

While gold is not exactly rare, gold becomes a commodity, also because the metal has always fascinated everyone, and has managed to retain its importance over centuries.

There have been wars because of this natural resource, making gold one of the most sought-after elements in the world.

And Congo, is regarded as one of the largest and richest countries in Africa, because of its wealth of natural resources.

Besides the aforementioned resources, Congo is also rich in copper, cadmium, industrial and gem-quality diamonds, silver, zinc, manganese, tin, germanium, uranium, radium, bauxite, iron ore, and coal.

It's even said that 65% of the Earth’s total coltan deposits are found in Congo, and coltan is very important in the manufacture of modern electronics

However, Congo is also one of the most suffering.

For more than many years, big and powerful western countries entered the nation to dig away its resources.

Millions of Congolese have died from having to work, and when having to face ethnic and cultural rivalries. Most of the time, it's the westerners and their people who benefit from the resources of that nation.

As a result, the nation has been plagued with an unending war, misery and poverty.

But again, because people no matter where they are always liked gold, they when huge deposits of this element is found, they will quickly swarm it.

While the videos, at least at this time, have yet to be proven authentic, it clearly shows how people can go crazy to possess this precious metal.

The video was first shared on Twitter by a user named Ahmad Algohbary, a Yemeni freelance journalist based in the capital Sana'a, Yemen.

"A video from the Republic of the Congo documents the biggest surprise for some villagers in this country, as an entire mountain filled with gold was discovered!" tweeted Algohbary through his verified account.

In times like this, whenever the situation goes bad, the government can intervene. The authorities of the country can also impose a ban on any mining activity to stop the rush.
