Indonesia is among the countries that frowns upon pornographic contents. This is why it has an anti-pornography laws in the hopes to protect the morals of its citizens from "pornographic acts."
Because of this and among other reasons, the Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, is actively scouting the web for accessible pornography in order to block them, and processes requests and inquiries from citizens concerning pornographic contents made available through the web.
And this time, a woman with the initial RR was arrested for becoming a webcam model named 'Kuda Poni' on Mango Live.
The woman was arrested in Bali, when the police visited her apartment at Kubu Residence, Taman Pancing, Denpasar.
According to the police's investigation, the woman admitted that she worked online through the Mango Live app, has been a webcam model for 9 months.
It all began when RR, who is later revealed to be Rani, visited Bali.
Unfortunately for the he woman who is from Bandung, West Java, she ran out of money while she's there. And because of that, as a mean to earn for a living, especially during the 'COVID-19' pandemic where things get difficult, she decided to be a webcam model.
She said that she didn't want things to be that way. She only wanted to earn a bit to support a living, especially because she is a widow, and has to support her 8-year-old child.
But since her earning from becoming a webcam model for her thousands of followers ranged from Rp1.5 million to Rp30 million (around $100 - $2,000) per month, the amount that was larger than her salary made her to reconsider her decision.
It is said that the 32-year-old woman worked as a lady companion at a karaoke bar prior to the pandemic.
In the West and some other countries, such profession is nothing new. There, becoming a webcam model is more acceptable due to the more-liberal way of thinking. But in Indonesia and other Muslim-dominant countries, becoming an adult webcam model is considered pornography, and is punishable by law.
The law in Indonesia began in 2006 with the Bill against Pornography and Porno-Action (Indonesian: Rancangan Undang-Undang Anti Pornografi dan Pornoaksi). The Bill was proposed, discussed, but was then dropped and withdrawn.
Then in 2008, the bill was reintroduced as the Bill on Pornography, which says that anyone engaging in pornography and pornoaction is punishable by law, pornoaction being an invented word that means "actions deemed indecent."
It should be noted that while the government is actively pursuing pornographic contents, the police is dispatched only when a case is filed.
