Amazon Can Deliver Things Fast. Ebay Thinks It Can Do That Better With 'Guaranteed Delivery'

Amazon hits the spotlight quite often. The online retail giant has come to more industries, putting itself ahead of the competition in several fields.

And when faster delivery matters, Amazon also has made quite a name for itself, and this is where people tend to forget about eBay.

By introducing 'Guaranteed Delivery', eBay that is a multinational e-commerce company, is reminding people that it can also ship things like Amazon, and faster too.

eBay's move comes as the demand for faster delivery times increase in online marketplaces. Guaranteed Delivery, as the name suggests, guarantees delivery for eligible items in three days or less. If the item isn't delivered after the deadline is due, the shopper gets a refund. Or if the item was shipped for free, the shopper can get a $5 coupon.

Amazon is a company known for short delivery times through its 'Prime' offering. eBay just wants to say that's a competitor to Amazon in this field.

While eBay is certainly too late in introducing Guaranteed Delivery, it's going through the efforts to highlight what it already has. This is because eBay can't really make deliveries faster since it doesn't directly handle shipments. What it does here, is to only leverage what has already existed in its culture.

Guaranteed Delivery is set to launch in summer 2017. At launch, eBay guarantees delivery in 3 days or less on 20 million eligible items. Out of that many, millions of them will offer free shipping. In addition, shoppers will also be able to search for and filter items by 1- and 2-day delivery.

"While the majority of items on eBay already ship within 3 days or less, as well as for free, Guaranteed Delivery will give shoppers even faster delivery options and the confidence that their items will arrive on time," said Hal Lawton, Senior Vice President of North America at eBay.

The Guaranteed Delivery tools will only be available to eligible sellers who have a history of fast shipping. Those that are qualified, will experience benefits with the rollout of the tools that are aimed for increasing their sales.
