Imagine having a seamless, natural spoken conversation with an AI.
This was pure science fiction, until technology advancements revealed how smart AIs can be when they are trained on vast amounts of data. Large Language Models (LLMs), have shown how interactive the technology is in even mimicking humans.
When ChatGPT was introduced by OpenAI, a number of players tried to even the field. One of them, is Anthropic.
This time, the company is launching a 'Voice Mode' feature in beta to its Claude AI on mobile.
In a post on X, Anthropic said that:
We're rolling out voice mode in beta on mobile.

Powered by Claude Sonnet 4, this new voice capability allows users on both iOS and Android mobile apps to engage in real-time, two-way conversations.
Users can choose from five distinct voice styles to personalize their experience, and for paid subscribers, the Voice Mode can be integrated with Google Workspace, enabling Claude to summarize emails, check calendars, and search documents via voice commands.
Paying users can also use Voice Mode to make Claude to search and browse the web.
Whether it's about planning for the day, brainstorming ideas, or simply seeking information, Claude's Voice Mode promises to make AI more accessible and integrated into its users' daily lives.
To make this Voice Mode even more useful, it can display key points on-screen as Claude speaks, meaning that users won't get lost in conversation, especially if it's a lengthy one.
"This feature enables you to speak to Claude and hear responses through voice, making it easier to use Claude when your hands are busy but your mind isn't," said Anthropic in a support page.
The goal is moving closer into creating more and more intuitive and helpful AI companion.
Voice mode in beta is available in English and coming to all plans in the next few weeks.

This release positions Claude in direct competition with established voice-enabled AIs like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.
ChatGPT, especially with its GPT-4o model, offers highly natural, real-time conversations with emotional nuance and strong multimodal capabilities, allowing it to respond to live video and screen shares.
Google's Gemini Live, on the other hand, excels in having its voice feature deeply integrated with the Google ecosystem, leveraging its vast knowledge base and ubiquitous presence across Android devices and smart home products, also incorporating camera-based understanding.
Grok from xAI even went as far as creating different voices to carter different personalities.
While its rivals offer compelling features, Claude's Voice Mode distinguishes itself with its robust Google Workspace integration for productivity-focused users, with a tool that is not Google's, and create a way for contextual understanding of personal data.
Anthropic's emphasis on "Constitutional AI" also ensures a focus on safety and responsible interactions.
