As a social giant on the web, Facebook gathers people into its platform, connecting them to do what they're supposed to do. And where there are people, there will be events.
Events on Facebook is nothing new, but there wasn't a way for events to be simpler on the platform until Facebook introduced Events from Facebook on October 7th, 2016.
The app that is dedicated solely to events, is basically a normal calendar with a bit of Facebook here an there. When first opening up the app, users can view events their friends are interested in checking, and events hosted on those Pages they've liked. And in addition to those, the app also updates events they're already following.
And because the app is plainly a calendar, users can keep track of all upcoming events. What's more, they can also integrate the events shown on the app to the calendar on their mobile devices.
There are many ways for users to integrate and sync Facebook's calendar into their already existing calendar. But this involve some work and third-party apps/software. Facebook in releasing its own calendar app allows the company to keep the conversation within its walled garden and inside its platform.
The idea here is to encourage people to use Facebook and its events feature.
To make it more interesting, Events for Facebook also allows users to browse through a list of recommendations based on time, location and the user's interest. Users can explore events happening using the interactive map, and also search for events in any city if they're planning ahead for a trip.
Some people may have never use their own calendar to mark events. Some users that do may even forget to check on their calendar from time to time. Many people don't need a powerful calendar feature, and some may not even need to use a calendar at all.
But the discovery feature where users can tune in to what's going on around them, is something particular that no other calendar app can really offer. The Events for Facebook can indeed be a convenient way to have any tasks - Facebook related or not - into one place.
Users can also keep track of all events in the calendar, which allows them to see which days they're already attending an event and when they're free. So planing should be easy. And because Events for Facebook is essentially a calendar app from Facebook, the actions taken on the app will be visible and available on Facebook. Friends will the see updates and events shared, even if they don't have the app.
