Firefox 64 With Better Tab Management And 'Contextual Feature Recommender'

It’s the end of 2018, and Mozilla has a surprise for its users. The organization has released Firefox 64 with features like improved tab management and smart suggestions.

As user activity using web browsers increases, they tend to open a lot of tabs. And here, organizing too many open tabs can be a tedious process.

With Firefox 64, tab junkies can select multiple tabs to move them, bookmark, or pin them all at once.

To do this, they need to hold the Ctrl/Cmd button, and then click on the tabs they want.

In fact, they can select as many tabs as they like.

The next feature that should come in handy, is called the 'Contextual Feature Recommender' (CFR). Initially available for users in the U.S., the feature can recommend users about features and extensions, based on what it learns from users' browsing habit.

For example, if users visit a certain site often, Firefox 64 can recommend the users to pin those tabs for easy access.

Some default extensions suggestions include:

  • Facebook container, which should allow users to use the social media without being tracked.
  • Enhancer for YouTube, which blocks ads and controlling playback.
  • Google Translate, which should come in handy for translating web pages on the go.

This CFR feature doesn't work when users use Firefox 64 in private mode. Mozilla also assures users that Firefox 64 only processes data for recommendations locally. What this means, users' browsing habit won't be uploaded to its servers.

Other improvements in Firefox 64, include improved scrolling speed on Android.

Firefox 64 also introduces a bunch of developer features, which include an improved JavaScript and CSS support, showing text contrast ration in the Accessibility Inspector, the ability to notify developers whether or not text on websites meets WCAG 2.0 Level AA or AAA accessibility guidelines for minimum contrast.

There is also an update to the Responsive Design Mode that saves device selection between sessions.

Full list of Firefox 64 enhancements for developers can be found here.

Mozilla is not bringing anything much to the table with Firefox 64. But the notable tab management tool and the suggestion features should all come useful.
