GitHub Launches Mobile App, So Developers Can Manage Their Projects Remotely

Not longer that work is done by sitting in front of a computer. With mobile devices becoming smarter and more common, work can also be done while on the go.

This is why the popular developer collaboration platform GitHub has launched a dedicated mobile app, to allow developers on its platform to manage their projects remotely. The app also allows them to merge and pull requests, and manage tasks from anywhere.

The app is a result of GitHub's mobile app beta that was launched back in 2019.

"GitHub for mobile gives you the flexibility to move work forward and stay in touch with your team, wherever you are. There’s a lot you can do on GitHub that doesn’t require a complex development environment, like sharing feedback on a design discussion and reviewing a few lines of code. Now we are making these tasks easy for you to perform, no matter where you work, with a beautifully native experience."

As shown on GitHub's announcement, the mobile app doesn't do much, and developers shouldn't expect to code through this app. But it does provides some great tools that can be used by developers to manage their projects:

  • Manage tasks on project. Developers can mark them as done, or save it for later.
  • Unblock teammates from making changes that might not need extensive testing.
  • Manage merge and pull requests directly from the app.
  • Browse latest notifications.
  • Read, react, and reply to issues.
  • Organize Issues with labels, assignees, projects, and more.
  • Browse all of users' files and code.
