Google Assistant is a virtual personal assistant developed by Google. It's able to hear and speak different languages, and here it has been updated to also understand Bahasa Indonesia.
Users can use this feature on both Google Assistant app and the company's smart messaging app named Allo.
"This Google Assistant is equipped with machine learning, which is a machine that continues to learn in order to improve its performance," said Product Management director of Google Search, Ken Tokusei.
Capable of understanding Bahasa Indonesia, users can ask Google Assistant to search for information via the chat box in Indonesian, like for instance, typing: "@google: cari restoran di dekat sini" instead of "@google: find Indonesian restaurants nearby".
With Assistant capable in understanding Indonesian, users in Indonesia can ease the process of their daily routines using their own mother language. From creating an alarm, put a reminder, play a music on YouTube, get directions on Google Maps, toggle Wi-Fi and so forth.
It can also say jokes in Indonesian and tell some fun stories.
Google Indonesia head of marketing, Veronica Utami, said that Assistant uses machine learning that learns from its users. This include Google's experience in search engine, natural language processing, computer vision and understanding users' intentions while using its services.
Bahasa Indonesia on Google Assistant is available on both Google app on Android 5.0 Lollipop and above, as well as on iOS 9.1 and above. Users should also install the latest Google app first, to set Bahasa Indonesia as the language of choice.
Afterwards, users can just hit the Home button on their smartphone, or say "OK, Google" to activate the feature.
And with the availability of Bahasa Indonesia on Assistant, developers can start creating apps that leverage Assistant through Google's Developer Actions. Initially, apps like Al-Qolam, Joox, KASKUS, Klikdokter, Mobile Legends, Tebak Gambar, Klikdokter, VIRA from Bank BCA, have been updated to use this feature.
Besides Bahasa Indonesia, Google has also added other languages. including Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Norwegian, Swedish and Thai.
