Google Doubles Down On AI As YouTube Launches 'Ask YouTube' Conversational Search

AI here, there, everywhere. At least on Google, there shall be no corners without it.

Google has moved with remarkable speed in recent months to weave artificial intelligence into nearly every corner of its product lineup. From major model upgrades such as Gemini 3 and 3.5 Flash to new agentic capabilities rolled out across Search, Workspace, Android, Cloud, and beyond, the company has delivered frequent and wide-reaching updates that embed advanced AI directly into tools people use daily.

This accelerated push reflects a clear strategy of integration rather than isolated experiments, with AI now powering everything from smarter search responses and productivity features to creative and discovery experiences.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan recently highlighted several new features rolled out by the platform in a busy week of updates that exemplify this broader momentum.

Among the most notable is 'Ask YouTube,' a conversational search tool that allows users to ask detailed questions and receive structured answers drawn from videos across the entire catalog.

The feature compiles relevant clips from both long-form content and Shorts, provides summarized insights, and generates step-by-step guides where appropriate.

Thanks to Gemini that powers it, users can follow up with additional questions to refine their exploration, making it easier to dive deeper into topics such as tutorials, explanations, or recommendations.

The tool is currently available to Premium members in the United States aged 18 and older, with plans for a wider rollout later this summer.

Alongside this search enhancement, YouTube has integrated its Premium Lite individual plan into Google’s AI Pro subscription. This bundling offers subscribers a more affordable way to access ad-free viewing on most non-music videos, along with background playback and downloads, combined with advanced AI capabilities from Google.

The move aims to give users greater flexibility in how they engage with both video content and emerging AI tools.

YouTube has also broadened access to its fan-funding options by expanding Gifts and Jewels to more countries, including Brazil and Mexico. These features provide creators with additional ways to earn directly from their audiences through virtual gifts during streams and other interactive elements.

In parallel, YouTube Music introduced Samples, personalized previews that let listeners discover snippets tailored to specific artists, albums, playlists, and mixes, helping users preview content more effectively before committing to full listens.

These launches demonstrate YouTube's continued focus on improving discovery, monetization, and music experiences for both viewers and creators.

The updates arrive as the platform seeks to balance new interactive tools with ongoing platform operations.

Many in the creator community responded to the announcement by noting the value of the features while also calling attention to existing challenges around content moderation and review processes.

Overall, the developments reflect incremental steps in refining how people search, subscribe, support creators, and discover music on YouTube, all within Google's fast-paced effort to place capable AI across its ecosystem.
