Google Wants To Stop Offering AdSense Users The Option To Use Western Union

No - Western Union

Google is the tech giant of the web. It became one of the most successful internet companies by offering publishers a share of its ad revenue.

The money that comes from advertisers, are spent to buy ad slots. When the ads are shown by publishers using AdSense, Google gets paid. In return for the publishers' efforts, Google splits its earning, with the publishers having various methods to receive their hard-earned cash.

Publishers can choose between receiving their AdSense money through checks, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Wire Transfer, or also through Western Union.

As for the latter, Google AdSense first began offering payments via Western Union in April 2007. And this time, after more than 13 years working with the financial service, Google said that it wont anymore offer Western Union as a new form of payment.

On its Support page, Google said that:

"As of August 10, 2020, you will no longer be able to select Western Union as a new form of payment."

"We recommend that publishers currently using Western Union switch to another available payment method before payments through Western Union stop in early 2021. We will inform current users in advance as to when Western Union can no longer be used to receive payments in their country. Learn more about the other available forms of payment and how to set up your form of payment."

What this means for publishers, if they use Western Union as their payment method for AdSense, they need to switch to other available payment methods, before 2021.

This is to ensure that they can get paid when their earnings reach the payment threshold.

It should be noted that Western Union as a payment method has only been used by publishers in a limited number of countries. What this means, most publishers out there shouldn't be affected by this change.
