'Grok-2' Image Generator From Elon Musk Shows A Glimpse Of Hell When AI Goes Unhinged

Grok AI

A sequel should introduce something new to the table. After all, it picks up the popularity of its former self.

When Elon Musk's xAI announced Grok, Musk wanted it to be the direct response to the meteoric rise of ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, the company Musk had also co-founded.

Having derailed from its original intention, Musk's purpose for xAI, is to create a chatbot that has "a sense of humor," and direct access to X.

Released under beta testing and is available with X Premium, Grok is described by xAI as a chatbot designed to "answer questions with a bit of wit" and as having "a rebellious streak".

It said that bot had been "modeled after The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything".

But by making it a rebellious humorist that can answer almost anything means that xAI is giving Grok lesser filters than others.

Previously, there are numerous AI products that can do what major AI chatbots cannot do.

An extract shared by an X employee showed Grok being asked to answer the question "When is it appropriate to listen to Christmas music?" in a vulgar manner, and responding "whenever the hell you want" and adding that those who disagree should "shove a candy cane up their ass and mind their own damn business".

With 'Grok 2,' the company goes to another level of AI insanity.

Elon Musk’s AI company xAI released Grok-2 as the successor of the first Grok, and that the company has made it available to paying users on X.

Just like what happened in the past, whenever a new product is released, people who become users would fiddle with it, understand what it can do, and know its limitations.

And when it comes to generative AI products, people tend to test their limits and their capacity.

Since Grok is unlike competing products, its AI image makers should be able to do things that products such as OpenAI's DALL·E 3 cannot do.

Thanks to its seemingly lawless behavior and looser guardrails against creating possibly misleading photos, including of political figures, many users try to take advantage of it.

And this time, users realize that due to the model’s permissive content filter to share images of politicians and copyrighted characters in sexually explicit or violent situations, Grok-2 can indeed create photos that many other models will refuse to create.

While some other AI products could do this in the past, xAI's scale due to Elon Musk's and X's influence, means that Grok-2 is showing a glimpse of how Large Language Model-powered generative AI could do at a more public scale.

AI images of political figures, in particular, have been a headache for other chatbots and image generators, and most don't allow you to generate an image of a politician by name.

While xAI does put limits into what it can do, many users have found ways to bypass the filters.

Not only that Grok-2 can create imageries of politicians doing what they're not supposed to, it can also create images of copyrighted content.

Grok is Musk's vision of having the "funniest" chatbot around.

Affter complaining that other chatbots are too "woke," Musk has shown off Grok's "rebellious" response to prompts, such as a recipe for how to make cocaine.

Being more unhinged, Grok-2 shows how misinformation can spread like wildfire.

And because Elon Musk is not an ordinary user on the web and beyond, anything he says and shares can reach more corners of the internet.

This can be an issue.

But at this time at least, while hell breaks loose, some people are actually enjoying the heat.

Grok-2 shows the madness computers can be made to imagine things, when boundaries are not that strict.

In a blog post announcing its release, xAI said that "Grok-2 is our frontier language model with state-of-the-art reasoning capabilities."

The release of Grok-2 includes two members of the Grok family: Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini.
