To Help Small Businesses, WhatsApp Introduces 'Catalog'

Communication is key to making a meaningful conversation. For businesses, this can convert leads into sales.

The popular WhatsApp messaging app has been one of the choices for businesses. Knowing that the e-commerce industry is still booming, the messaging app owned by Facebook wants to help small business owners by launching a feature called 'Catalog'.

As its name suggests, Catalog is designed to help small businesses showcase their offerings through a distinct catalog of products.

Previously, businesses could only share product photos and information with customers one at a time using WhatsApp business app. With the update, businesses can create a catalog, where they can also add more information.

According to WhatsApp on its blog announcement:

"People love chatting on WhatsApp with their favorite small businesses, but having to exchange multiple messages and photos to get product information is tedious. Today we are making it easier to learn about the products and services businesses offer with the introduction of catalogs in the WhatsApp Business app."

Businesses can access the 'Catalog' feature directly from the "Business settings" section of the WhatsApp Business app.

There are options to add multiple images, product or service name, price, description, link, and product or service code. These options are visible on the Catalog page. Furthermore, businesses have the option to showcase different types of products and services that they offer on a single page.

Once a business has created a catalog using this Catalog feature, the contents can be shared as part of their business profile, or even in chat when conversing with potential customers through the WhatsApp Business app.

For easy sharing capability, WhatsApp Business provides a Catalog button directly in the sharing menu.

"Catalogs are a mobile storefront for businesses to showcase and share their goods so people can easily browse and discover something they would like to buy. Previously businesses had to send product photos one at a time and repeatedly provide information — now customers can see their full catalog right within WhatsApp."

"This makes business owners look more professional and keeps customers engaged in the chat without having to visit a website."

WhatsApp is initially rolling out the Catalog feature for businesses using the WhatsApp Business app on both Android and iPhone in India, Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the UK, and the U.S..

The company is planning to to roll out the feature to more businesses in more countries in the coming future.
