Microsoft Adds Call Recording To Skype, And Redesigned Its Desktop App

Skype is a an application software from Microsoft that specializes in providing video chat and voice calls.

Microsoft has added a built-in call recording feature to the platform. This the first time that such feature is included in Skype since its original release in 2003. Previously, Skype users had to rely on third-party apps to record their calls, with Avaer as one of the most popular.

The call recording feature is cloud-based, allowing users to access Skype call recordings across devices including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and also Linux.

"Call recording is completely cloud-based, and as soon as you start recording, everyone in the call is notified that the call is being recorded," said Microsoft's Skype team. "Call recordings combine everyone’s video as well as any screens shared during the call."

Microsoft has also started experimenting with a new Content Creator mode for Skype, to allow users like streamers, vloggers, and podcasters to easily integrate Xsplit, Wirecast, and Vmix directly into Skype.

There is also the '@' mention feature, HD video and screen-sharing in calls, message reactions, notification panel features, file and media sharing up to 300 MB, and a gallery to make it easier to find shared links, documents, or photos in a conversation.

Microsoft also has plans to bring even more features, which include: read receipts for conversations, and the ability to create private conversations powered by Signal Protocol end-to-end encryption.

The company has receive many feedback regarding Skype on both mobile and desktop. Since Microsoft's radical Skype redesign in 2017 that wasn't well-received, the company has made numerous tweaks to the app to make it more competitive in the growing cross-platform instant messaging industry.
