Nvidia's AI Creating Fake Videos: Teaching Computers the Art Of Deception

AI (Artificial Intelligence) is already blurring the line between the "real" and the fabricated, and it's blurring it even further.

After its AI is capable in creating faces of people that never exist, Nvidia's machine learning can also change the weather, turning day into night, sunny to snowy, and even changing the spots on a leopard.

Usually, methods required to teach machines include a massive amount of data. This is an issue because more data means more information that AI needs to process before finding the correct pattern.

Nvidia considered the problem to be similar to teaching a machine to colorizing a photo, according to the researchers’ white paper:

"For example, super-resolution can be considered as a problem of mapping a low-resolution image to a corresponding high-resolution image; colorization can be considered as a problem of mapping a gray-scale image to a corresponding color image."

To address this problem, Nvidia's researchers developed an unsupervised learning method for computers which allows AI to do sweeping changes to video contents it’s fed. By using this method, Nvidia's AI was able to find patterns without human intervention.

As a result, the AI that maps sunny days videos, can generate snow on them. This is like putting a filter on top of the original, but in a whole different way because the AI has attained a clear ability to imitate reality.

Here is like Nvidia is teaching computers the art of deception.
