OpenAI Gives ChatGPT A Dedicated 'Library' Section For Users' AI-Generated Images

ChatGPT Image Library

There are plenty of fish in the sea. What should one fish do to stand out in that big, swirling sea?

Since OpenAI unleashed ChatGPT and astonished the tech industry and beyond, plenty of others followed suit, creating an arms race where researchers and commercial entities develop better and more powerful Large Language Models.

In this case, there are already plenty of AI image generators out there.

So why would OpenAI's own image generator shine?

One of the reason, is because OpenAI has announced a sleek new addition to ChatGPT: an image library that lets users easily access and manage the images they’ve generated with the tool.

The feature is now rolling out across all tiers—Free, Plus, and Pro—on both mobile and web platforms.

In a brief demo video, OpenAI showcased the new experience.

The ChatGPT sidebar now includes a “Library” section, where users can view a grid layout of their previously created images. There's also a conveniently placed button at the bottom of the screen to create a new image on the spot.

In the mobile app for ChatGPT, the feature works just as fine.

It showed a simple, intuitive way to scroll through everything users have generated using the image generator.

it's all pretty straightforward to use.

Not only that the tab collects every image users have generated across every chat in their history, but they can also click or tap on the image for edit and download options.

Users can also create a new image from the Library section.

For privacy, whenever users delete a chat, the the included images that that deleted chat also get wiped from the Library tab.

"All of your image creations, all in one place," wrote OpenAI in a post on X.

"Introducing the new library for your ChatGPT image creations—rolling out now to all Free, Plus, and Pro users on mobile and chatgpt.com."

For those who often use ChatGPT, and for those who use its image generator to elaborate storyboards, dreamy Studio Ghibli-style scenes, or creating that occasional uncanny portrait, this feature makes it easier to revisit and organize their creations.

It's worth noting that at during the feature's debut, there isn't anything in the way of image search or filtering as yet.
