WhatsApp Introduces 'Messages Drafts' To Help Those Who Are 'Distracted' When Typing

WhatsApp message drafts

WhatsApp is the world’s leading messaging app in terms of sheer number, and this time, a long awaited feature has finally arrived.

As simple as it gets, but extremely handy, the Meta-owned platform is launching a 'Message Drafts' feature so users will never have to worry about losing their half-written message again. For users who get interrupted or distracted while typing, WhatsApp can now save that unfinished message as draft.

The feature works like this: when users start typing but don't send the message they typed, WhatsApp will start marking the chat with a green "Draft" label.

This indicator also appears in the chat list, showing a preview of the unsent message.

In a post on X:

"Starting a reply to a message and getting distracted… we know what that’s like."

"Which is why we’re introducing drafts! when you start a message and don’t finish it, you’ll see a draft indicator on the chat so you remember to hit send."

This new feature essentially provides a new and easy way to find your unfinished messages on WhatsApp.

With the feature, users can finally pause mid-thought without the pressure to finish every message immediately.

To make things even more convenient, chats with drafts are moved to the top of your chat list, so users know that they're there.

Users should be able to find them easily and finish them.

While WhatsApp has derailed from its the intentions of its original founders, Meta that acquired it by paying a staggering $31 billion has since added numerous updates, some are small and some are big.

But features like this draft feature is one of those small changes that made to polish the app.

Other platforms have offered similar tools for years, so it's about time that WhatsApp is making itself align to others.

The change is small and nothing significant. But it's a meaningful change nonetheless.
