BlackBerry's global rights to TCL

The global rights to BlackBerry's brand name has been sold to a TCL a Chinese manufacturer. The company that created phones under the Alcatel name and also designed the DTEK50 and DTEK60, will be able to produce, market, and sell BlackBerry branded mobile devices, as well as providing customer service.

BlackBerry will only do the assists in software and services.

The deal isn't valid in Indonesia and India. The two countries had agreements with BlackBerry, and there people are still having enthusiasm over the BlackBerry brand. Other countries that also don't apply are Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The news follows an announcement by the Canadian company in September that it would stop making its own phones and concentrate instead on services and software.
