Charli D'Amelio Becomes The First TikTok User To Reach 100 Million Followers

The internet is a cruel place to be.

And on social media in particular, things can sometimes be unforgiving. For a 69-year old Tai chi 'master' from China for example, he gave up martial arts because netizens were ridiculing him.

A similar thing happened to two girls from the U.S. that are way younger.

The D’Amelio sisters, Charli and Dixie, got "canceled" after their "immature" behavior. Charli has been the biggest TikTok star, and because of her being disrespectful, immodest and ungrateful, she lost more than a million of followers in an instant.

The girls continue to face harassment from fellow teens and even adults across social media platforms. During one tear-filled post, Charli wondered how she should stay on an app where there's so much hate.

But it's only a few days later that Charli became the first user on the platform to pass 100 million followers, cementing her status as TikTok's most followed creator, less than two years after she started posting videos.

After losing more than a million followers, she quickly rebounded, celebrating 99 million followers on Saturday, and 100 million just a day later.

This is a proof that while the internet and social media are unforgiving and cruel, sometimes, things are temporary. Despite that the internet will forever document the D'Amelio sisters as once "disrespectful", "immodest" and "ungrateful", the internet will also forever acknowledge that Charli D'Amelio is the first on TikTok to ever reach 100 million followers.

This kind of moment shows the result of fans and followers that may have unrealistic expectations on young influencers.

Simply because the D'Amelio sisters are big celebrities, people tend to forget that they are actually teenagers doing teenagers stuffs.

Teens tend to be emotional and rebellious, adventurous and risk-taking. It's during this stage that teenagers start to learn more about themselves, their inner world, strong and weak personal qualities. As a result and at certain time, teenagers may see a big gap between their ideal picture of themselves and a real one.

And when that happens to a celebrities, they have the highest tendencies to express more of themselves, which at times, show behavior that isn't appropriate to adults, or even other teens.

It all started when the TikTok’s most-followed star posted a family dinner video called Dinner With The D'Amelios that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. In part of the video, she complained to YouTube star James Charles about only having 95 million followers, and not 100.

"Ugh, I wish I had, like, more time because imagine if I hit 100 mil a year after hitting a mil," D'Amelio said, to which Charles replied, "Was the 95 not enough for you?"

She answered, "Well, I was just like saying like, even numbers."

Fans felt that her comment was anything but humble.
