Elon Musk Considers Making An 'Alternative Phone' If Twitter Is Removed From Apple And Google

Being rich and famous does come with lots of perks.

And for Twitter Chief Elon Musk, he does have the resources and experience in founding and acquiring companies.

In the past, Musk's idea of creating the Boring Company, one of the many companies he founded, sparked when he was caught in a traffic.

In 2016, he famously tweeted that "Traffic is driving me nuts. Am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging..."

He came up with the company name about an hour later, saying that "It shall be called 'The Boring Company.'"

And this time, he said that considers making an "alternative phone" in the event that Twitter is removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Musk made the comments on Friday night in response to conservative commentator Liz Wheeler, who tweeted, "If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?"

"I certainly hope it does not come to that," Musk replied, "but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone."

In one way or another, Musk threatens to compete with iOS and Android, if and only if Twitter he just acquired is banned from the stores on which the two producers of operational systems for smartphones that sell Android and iOS-based apps.

Musk tweeted that he hopes this will not happen.

However, if he is wrong, he promised to launch his own phone, which in this context, apparently, could also mean launching a new operating system and an online store for its applications.

After all, Elon Musk, the billionaire and serial entrepreneur, is the richest man on Earth, and that he has acquired Twitter for $44 billion and that he has become the "Chief Twit" of the company.

Musk made made a series of changes, which also include the reinstatement of Kanye West's account, and former U.S. President Donald Trump's account.

While Musk certainly has lots of fans and followers who would do anything to support his idea, many others don't.

And previously, Yoel Roth, former head of trust and safety at Twitter, said in a New York Times op-ed that the social media giant risks being expelled from Apple and Google's app stores if it fails to adhere to their guidelines.

"Failure to adhere to Apple’s and Google’s guidelines would be catastrophic, risking Twitter’s expulsion from their app stores and making it more difficult for billions of potential users to get Twitter’s services. This gives Apple and Google enormous power to shape the decisions Twitter makes," Roth said.

Roth added that "the calls from the app review teams had already begun."

Musk's comments come after Phil Schiller, an Apple executive who's responsible for leading the App Store, deleted his Twitter account.

Following the statement, Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency that Musk has long showed his support, has demonstrated a massive growth of over 15% in just 24 hours.

Just before this, Musk posted a poll on Twitter to ask users if they believe the platform should offer amnesty to suspended accounts as long as they did not break any law or engage in "egregious spam."

More than a million people responded to Musk’s poll about offering amnesty, three hours after he posted it.
