Facebook with 2 billion users

28/06/2017

Facebook is a massive social media network, and it has just got bigger. The company has just hit 2 billion monthly users.

The social media is growing at a rapid pace despite its size as already one of the largest on the internet. It was at 1.94 billion as of March before finally adding another 60 million in a few months.

The internet is still growing. As of April 2017, the number was 7.5 billion users. With Facebook having 2 billion users, the social network owns more than a quarter of the web's population. That number doesn't count users using Facebook-owned apps like Instagram (700 million monthly active users) and WhatsApp (1.2 billion monthly active users).

With that number, Facebook continues to solidify its position as the largest, most influential social network in the world.

Alongside the milestone, the company also shared more numbers:

  • 175 Million people use the Love reaction every day.
  • 800 million people Like something every day.
  • Over 1 billion people use Groups every month.

The announcement came just a few days after Facebook's first-ever Community Summit in Chicago, where Zuckerberg unveiled tools to make it easier for administrators of Facebook groups to grow and curate their communities.

To celebrate the achievement, Facebook made a new personalized video for users' News Feeds highlighting some choice images and posts that they've Loved. And when users send someone a happy birthday, or create a Group, Facebook will send a thank you note for "sharing some love."

It took Facebook about five years to add a billion users to its previous 1 billion users.
