Facebook is introducing Place Tips. By gathering friends' recommendations to information about the places and things that interest its users, Facebook helps them connect with places around them.
Place Tips, as Facebook said in its post, will "show you fun, useful and relevant info about the place you’re at." Curated differently to each users, Place Tips gather posts and photos shared by the user's friends about the place the user is at.
To provide this push data, Facebook is also testing Bluetooth beacons which send signals to mobile devices. When a Facebook user in within a set distance, the beacon can then send the curated information automatically.
