The world knows much less about web browsers other than Chrome, since the web browser from Google wins the market by a huge margin.
But there is much to worry about the web browser because Atlas VPN reported that Chrome is the most vulnerable web browser in 2022.
The moment the report was made, the team at the VPN provider counted 303 vulnerabilities, totaling to a huge 3,159 cumulative vulnerabilities.
These figures are based on data from the VulDB vulnerability database, covering January 1, 2022 to October 5, 2022.
The report also added that Chrome is the only web browser with new vulnerabilities in the first five days in October.
In second place, is Mozilla's Firefox. The team counted 117 vulnerabilities.
Coming third, is Microsoft Edge, which had 103 vulnerabilities as of October 5, or 61% more than the entire year of 2021.
AtlasVPN noted that this is, "an unusually high number" for a browser with only 806 total vulnerabilities since its release.
Then, in fourth place, is Safari. The web browser that is only available on Apple devices has some of the lowest levels of vulnerabilities. The team at Atlas VPN counted 26 vulnerabilities in the first three quarters of 2022, and its number for cumulative vulnerabilities 1,139 since its release.
Fifth, is Opera, which has no documented vulnerabilities so far in 2022 when the report was made, totaling to 344 vulnerabilities.
It's worth noting here, that Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera all share the Chromium browser engine.
What this means, vulnerabilities in Chromium may affect all three browsers.
To ensure that users are kept safe, Atlas VPN said that users should always make sure that their browser is up to date.
No matter what browser they use, updating the browser to its latest version is the best bet of having a more secure browser.
Users should also be extra careful when choosing which plugins or extensions to install.
And lastly, users should always be wary of phishing, as cybercriminals often use communications channels to distribute malicious code capable of exploiting various flaws in browsers.
