Hollywood exposure can turn anything into part of a pop culture that can last for generations.
This includes the 9,000 square feet, five bedrooms and six bathrooms house in 671 Lincoln Ave in Winnetka, Illinois.
Built in 1921, it has been renovated and has been expanded from what it was known for. But the "integrity of the home’s most memorable and recognizable spaces" the listing says.
The house in question, is no other than Kevin McCallister’s childhood home.
The Home Alone house, which boasts a Georgian-style decoration, is hitting the market for $5.25 million.
"It’s a chance to own a piece of cinematic history," said the Dawn McKenna Group, the real estate team selling the property, adding that it’s a "rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic movie residences in American pop culture."
Famous homes that have been portrayed in films, and or previously owned by celebrities, have easily hit the multi-million dollar mark.
And this Home Alone house is no exception.
The house first made it on screen, during the Christmas classic film, which starred young Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an 8-year-old boy forced to fend for himself after his family accidentally left him at home during the holiday season.
While his family is on holiday in Paris, he enjoys life to himself in the large house, feasting on junk food and sledding down the stairs.
But when he overhears that burglars are going to target the house, he sets up a series of booby traps to foil their plans.
The house served as the main setting of Home Alone and is also seen in the beginning of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
It was also the sole setting of Google Assistant: Home Alone Again.
Since the release of the 1990 classic film directed by Chris Columbus, the house has gone under extreme renovation.
Posting a walkthrough of the interiors, estate agents The Dawn Mckenna Group, said the owners have doubled the living space with the addition of a large conservatory and built a state-of-the-art basketball court.
Sitting in a huge lot that is approximately half an acre, the house features a spacious sunroom and renovated attic space, gas fireplace and a wood-burning fireplace, a double islands in the gourmet kitchen, an expansive patio area, a marble spa, a garage to accommodate three cars, and more.
It also features cathedral ceilings, both a dry bar and a wet bar, walk-in closets, bookcases, coffered ceiling, open floorplan, separate dining room, pantry, heated floors, insulated windows, and more.
The house, described by the company as "one of the most famous houses in the world", also features two living rooms, and let's not forget, the "unforgettable staircase" Macaulay Culkin rode down on with a sledge.
The "biggest surprise" is an indoor sports court complete with a three-point line.
The Georgian-style property, built in 1921, has plenty of space to accommodate family living and entertaining.
Back in 2012, the house was sold for $1,585,000, according to real estate marketplace Zillow.
And back in 2021, fans of the movie were given the opportunity to rent the house for one night only.
