20/12/2021

While influencers aren't always celebrities, and celebrities can always use their fame to be influencers, influencers can be so famous that they send ripples across the social media sphere.

And Laura Anna from Indonesia could be considered one of them.

The woman was a 21-year-old Instagram influencer when she died.

Laura started receiving huge attention after a car accident in 2019 that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

But despite her conditions, Laura continued to share and upload cheerful and positive posts on her Instagram account, right until the day before her death.

And when the Instagram influencer died, her death left unresolved legal battle with her ex-boyfriend Gaga Muhammad, also an internet influencer, who was driving the car when the accident occurred, allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Laura Anna (right) and Gaga Muhammad (left) were once a happy power couple.

It all began in the early hours of December 8th, 2019.

After a night partying that left the couple drunk, Gaga was driving the car the two were in. On the Jagorawi toll road, Gaga who couldn't keep himself sober enough to drive, crashed the car.

While Gaga survived the crash with minor injuries, Laura was far less fortunate, as the crash dislocated one of her cervical vertebrae.

This left her paralyzed from her waist down.

Feeling responsible for the incident, Gaga started a crowdfunding campaign to help Laura, but eventually only raised a few hundred dollars. While Gaga might not have any ill intention, netizens condemned his act, simply because the couple had often been spotted vacationing to many place and indulging in a luxury lifestyle.

Making things worse, in 2020, Laura said on her Instagram account that Gaga had never transferred anything to at least help her with her medical bills.

Laura even accused Gaga for neglecting her, and use her absence to be with other women.

Laura also said that Gaga was found withdrawing cash from her ATM card soon after the crash.

The story went viral, and immediately tarnished their image as a happy internet power couple.

Following the announcement, Laura’s family through a lawyer, subpoenaed Gaga, and demanded him to pay Rp 12.6 billion (around $850,000) toward her medical bills.

Gaga ignored the subpoena.

In response, Laura’s family made prosecutors to build a case against him.

In his defense, Gaga said that he wanted to propose to Laura, as a way for him to make up for his mistakes.

However, he stopped short because Laura's family demanded him to pay Laura's medical bill first.

"Even my parents have discussed the matter with me, and agreed that I marry Laura as a way to show that I'm responsible for everything that happened," he said.

"And not just that, because I also love Laura."

"So what happened to Laura and I was an unavoidable disaster. It's impossible if I want an accident. This is God's destiny that I have to accept, and at the time of the incident I was driving the car perfectly, while Laura used the seat belt only on the top or not perfectly," concluded Gaga Muhammad.

But Laura's parents kept on asking the Rp 12.6 billion, and demanded to file this as a lawsuit, and considered everything Gaga said to be a lie.

In the last few months of her life, Laura who had started using a wheelchair, accepted a number of interviews and attend talks shows.

And for more than often, she spoke about how her health had improved.

Even in the less than 24 hours before her death, Laura was still uploading selfies and videos on Instagram, show her smiling and enjoying her moments with her close friends.

And her last post on Instagram, she uploaded a photo of her with her friends:
